Hello Everyone! 👋 Samet Çelmeli here.
I’ve seen a few comments from subscribers saying they haven’t been receiving the newsletter by email. To be honest, I’m not sure why this is happening. The emails are sent through Substack’s own system, but for some reason they don’t always seem to reach every reader.
Even if the email doesn’t arrive in your inbox, you can always find the latest posts at celmeli.substack.com. I also share each week’s newsletter in the Facebook group and on my own profile.
Anyway, enough of the technical side. Let’s take a look at what happened in Alanya this week. 👇

📰 General News
🏗️ Construction noise is once again frustrating residents and businesses in Alanya during the summer season. Noisy work such as excavation, concrete pouring and heavy machinery is restricted from May 15 to October 15, but some building sites appear to be continuing despite the rules. Locals are asking why the restrictions are not being enforced more effectively.
🚧 Work has started on İsa Küçülmez Avenue in Kestel, one of the area’s main roads. Alanya Municipality is renewing the route in three stages, beginning between Kestel Junction and the neighbourhood headman’s office. The project includes new asphalt, lighting and landscaping, and is expected to take around 45 days.
⚕️ Frequent power cuts in Yaylalı Neighborhood have become a serious concern for one local family. A patient who needs an oxygen device cannot use it when the electricity fails, so his father has to take him to the hospital. Residents are calling for a practical long-term solution for people who depend on medical equipment at home.
♻️ Alanya’s first reverse vending machine, where people can return bottles and cans for a deposit refund, has started operating at Alanyum Shopping Mall. The machine accepts eligible plastic, glass and metal drink containers with the deposit mark. Users receive 1 TL per item through the DOA mobile app.
🐢 Two Caretta caretta turtles washed ashore dead on Alanya’s eastern beaches, in Yeşilöz and Seki. Residents informed a local environmental association, and teams came to check the area. The turtles were later removed from the beach and buried properly.
👨👩👦 Alanya Municipality has provided its free circumcision service for another 140 children in the second round of its 2026 programme. The total number this year has now reached 250.
🚔 Traffic and Public Safety
🚔 A 40-year-old man died after being shot near the entrance to 100. Yıl Park in Damlataş, one of Alanya’s busiest spots. Police later detained three people linked to the case. Two suspects were arrested, while one was released under judicial control.
💔 A sad update to the story we mentioned in Issue 96. The search for 26-year-old Ahmet Polat, who went missing after entering Alara Stream to cool off, has ended after 21 days. His body was found near the artificial waterfall area. The news brought a painful end to his family’s long wait.
👮 Police in Alanya detained a 33-year-old German man wanted by Interpol after finding him at an address in Kestel. He was wanted by German authorities over firearms and knife offences. His partner, who was with him at the property, was also detained. The man was later handed over to immigration officials for deportation procedures.
🚔 An Alanya court has handed down a 22-year, 6-month prison sentence to a 61-year-old German man convicted in a child sexual abuse case involving his daughter. The court said the offence was proven through the victim’s statement and case evidence. The defendant received no reduction, and his detention will continue.
🚔 An 18-year-old was detained in Alanya after allegedly leaving a restaurant in Mahmutlar without paying and claiming to be a gendarmerie officer. After checking security camera footage, gendarmerie teams identified the suspect and found him in Kestel. A legal investigation has been opened.
🏊 An unusual police chase in Alanya ended at sea after a wanted man jumped into the water to escape. Officers followed him by jet ski, caught him offshore and brought him back to land.
🕵️ An organised crime investigation in Alanya led to 8 people being detained after technical and physical surveillance by police. The suspects are accused of planning a major fraud using fake documents and contracts worth about 3 million euros. One suspect was also accused of using a fake military ID. The case is still under investigation.
👮 Alanya police detained three suspects after a person was allegedly kidnapped and held in a home. Officers rescued the victim during an operation following surveillance work by specialist police teams. The suspects claimed the dispute was linked to a debt, but they were later remanded in custody pending trial.
⚡ A truck hit an electricity transformer in Oba on July 1, causing a long power cut in the area. Homes and businesses were left without electricity during the summer heat, leaving many people without air conditioning. Electricity teams were called in to repair the damage and restore power to the neighbourhood.
✈️ Tourism
🔥 A late-night fire broke out in the roof area of Elysee Rive Hotel in Alanya at around 00:30 on July 2. Hotel guests were safely evacuated, and emergency teams arrived soon after. Firefighters stopped the flames from spreading. No one was injured, and the cause is under investigation.
🔥 In a separate hotel incident, a fire broke out in the recycling storage area of the five-star Azure Deluxe Hotel in Avsallar. Fire crews put it out before it could spread, and there were no injuries.
🏛️ The era of free visits to Syedra Ancient City has officially ended following the latest announcement by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Visitors without a MüzeKart will now need to pay €7 to enter the ancient site. Entry remains available with a MüzeKart, although the card itself must be purchased separately.
☀️ TUI’s 2026 summer data puts Antalya at the top for holiday bookings, with demand also supported by last-minute sales. The figures are encouraging for the wider region, including Alanya. Still, the local picture appears more mixed, as some shopkeepers say business on the streets has not matched the strong booking numbers. One possible reason is that many visitors spend most of their time inside hotels, especially all-inclusive resorts, and spend less in local shops, cafés and restaurants.
🎭 Art & Entertainment
⚓ Alanya celebrated Maritime and Cabotage Day on July 1 with a lively programme around the harbour. The 100th anniversary events began with an official ceremony and continued with decorated boats, swimming races, tug-of-war, the traditional greasy pole contest, a flyboard show and free boat tours for visitors.
🏆 Sports
🏟️ The new 2026-2027 season ticket prices have been announced for Alanyaspor home games. VIP seats are the highest category, with South VIP at 50.000 TL and North VIP at 40.000 TL. Marathon tickets range from 9.000 TL to 15.000 TL, while behind-the-goal tickets are 4.000 TL in the South Stand and 3.500 TL in the North Stand.

Beste Samet,
Wat een verscheidenheid aan nieuws.
Hopelijk snel mooi resultaat van de infrastructuur in o.a. Kestel. Fijn dat je leest dat politie zeer alert reageert en optreedt tegen zaken die buiten de wet vallen.
Wens je een mooie gezonde en liefdevolle week samen met je gezin .
