It’s been a fairly quiet week in Alanya, although a very busy one for me. Autumn is beginning to feel just around the corner, and I’m definitely ready for some cooler weather. So, let’s see what’s been happening in Alanya this week. Have a lovely Sunday!

📰 General News

📡 On August 16, 2026, Türksat satellite broadcasts underwent a major frequency and broadcasting update. Television and radio channels previously broadcast via Türksat 3A were moved to newer-generation Türksat satellites, and the frequencies of many channels changed.

No action was required on TVs or satellite receivers that support TKGS. The Türksat Channel Update System (TKGS) will update the channel list automatically. On older TVs or satellite receivers without TKGS, users need to run a new channel scan after the change.

💧 Municipal police found wastewater being discharged into Hacet Stream at two locations in Sugözü and Bektaş. In one case, a septic system had been connected to a stormwater drain. In the other, wastewater collected by a tanker was emptied directly into the stream. Fines were issued and criminal complaints were filed.

🧘‍♀️ Free Pilates classes for women have started at two locations in Alanya. The municipality-run sessions are held at Galip Dere Accessible Public Beach and the 100. Yıl Recep Hacıfazlıoğlu Sports Hall. Classes are led by qualified instructors and aim to make regular exercise more accessible while also giving participants a chance to socialize.

🚔 Traffic and Public Safety

🛂 Alanya is at the center of a wider investigation into the alleged misuse of Schengen visa appointments. Investigators say automated software was used to take available appointment slots and sell them for high fees. Of eight suspects brought before an Alanya court, seven were arrested, while one was released under judicial supervision and banned from traveling abroad.

🕯️ A young man has died following an elevator repair accident at a hotel in Konaklı. Abdullah Çıtak, who worked on the hotel’s maintenance team, was seriously injured about two weeks earlier and remained in hospital until his death. He had married just eight months before the accident.

🌊 Coast Guard teams carried out a several-hour search after a 19-year-old man went missing at Galip Dere Beach. Ömer Faruk Güral had entered the sea to cool off when he was caught in a current and disappeared. Teams eventually found his body in the water, and it was taken to the morgue for an autopsy.

🚙 A safari jeep carrying tourists collided with a car at the junction of Barbaros and Ahmet Yatmaz streets in Mahmutlar. Both vehicles were damaged, but no one was injured. Residents say the junction has seen several accidents and are calling for traffic lights and other safety improvements.

🚒 Firefighters came to the rescue of a tourist at Cleopatra Beach after his foot became wedged between rocks near the shore. The team entered the water and had to break the rock before they could free him. The tourist was safely rescued and did not suffer any serious injuries.

🔪 Two separate knife fights left two men with neck injuries. In Konaklı, a 23-year-old man was injured during a fight with a friend. In a separate incident near the Atatürk Monument, a Danish tourist was seriously injured. Two suspects were arrested and sent to prison.

👮 A dispute that began on Instagram escalated into a fight when four men met in Güllerpınarı. Nearby residents called the police, who detained everyone involved. After appearing in court, one man was remanded in custody, while the other three were released.

🏍️ A motorcycle accident in Bayır left one man dead and another injured. The bike left the road and fell into a ravine. The 26-year-old rider died at the scene, while his 51-year-old passenger was taken to hospital for treatment. Gendarmerie are investigating the accident.

🚔 Gendarmerie teams seized 785 kilograms of illegal tobacco during operations in Alanya, Aksu and Demre. The tobacco was found in vehicles travelling from eastern Türkiye to Antalya. Authorities said legal action was taken against those involved as part of efforts to combat tobacco smuggling.

🚔 Police detained a 47-year-old man who attempted to enter Alanya Courthouse carrying a handgun. Security staff stopped him after the entrance X-ray scanner raised an alarm. Officers found a 9mm pistol around his waist, confiscated the weapon and transferred him to a police station.

✈️ Tourism

🚢 The Marella Discovery cruise ship returned to Alanya for the fourth time this season, bringing 2,535 passengers and crew. The 264-metre ship arrived from Marmaris, and many of its mainly British passengers spent the day visiting the castle, Red Tower and Cleopatra Beach or joining local tours.

🎭 Art & Entertainment

🎶 Music filled the historic Red Tower on August 15, with flutist Ana Carolina Bueno performing alongside piano accompaniment. The free evening concert was part of Alanya’s series bringing live music to the city’s historic landmarks, offering audiences a summer evening of classical music by the Mediterranean.

🏆 Sports

⚽ The new Süper Lig season began with a 1-1 draw for Alanyaspor in Gaziantep. Ruan put Alanyaspor ahead in the first half, scoring their first goal of the season, before Deian Sorescu equalized for Gaziantep FK after the break. The score remained 1-1, giving Alanyaspor a solid point away from home.
